Cloud edge computing places processing, caching, networking, or service delivery closer to users, devices, or data sources than a central cloud region.

What it means

Edge locations can reduce latency and bandwidth use, support disconnected or constrained environments, and improve content delivery. They also create additional deployment, identity, patching, observability, and physical-security considerations.

The edge expands the attack surface and the number of locations where data and code may exist, so central governance must still reach distributed components.
